Old Fashioned Strawberry Pie

This one’s filled with fresh, sweet strawberries coated in a light strawberry glaze. A glaze that’s just thick enough to hold the strawberries together, but just loose enough so a couple stray strawberries fall out out onto the plate. It’s not perfect — we love that. Not to mention, those stray strawberries are perfect for swiping through some lightly whipped cream.

The recipe is a breeze, too.

How We Make It — Fresh Strawberry Pie Recipe

There are two parts to this recipe — the pie shell and the strawberry filling.

How to Bake Pie Crust

Whether you buy pie dough or make homemade dough, you will need to bake the pie shell. This takes 20 to 30 minutes.

Start by rolling out some pie dough and placing into a pie dish roll it, place it into the pie dish and crimp the edges).

Next, use a fork to prick the bottom of the pie shell — this helps to prevent the dough from bubbling up when baking. Add some aluminum foil or parchment paper to the bottom then weigh it down with rice, dried beans or pie weights. Bake until golden then remove the foil or parchment and brush the entire shell with egg wash and bake a little longer. The egg wash helps make the pie shell shiny and golden, but it also seals the bottom of the pie shell and prevents the strawberry filling from making the crust soggy.

Cool the pie shell then fill.

How to Make the Strawberry Filling

We really like to use fresh strawberries for this. Start by mashing about 2 cups of strawberries. Add some sugar, corn starch and extra flavors (like vanilla and lemon) then cook until bubbly and thick. — That’s your strawberry glaze.

Then, toss with more strawberries and add to the baked and cooled pie crust.

Refrigerate for a few hours then top with whipped cream.

One of my favorite deserts!

Fashion Designer Oscar de la Renta Dies at 82

Oscar De La Renta

Iconic fashion designer Oscar de la Renta has died, a family member told ABC News. He was 82.

De la Renta was diagnosed with cancer in 2006.

Born in the Dominican Republic in 1932, de la Renta left home at 18 to study painting in Madrid. It was there he developed a love of fashion design and began an apprenticeship with Cristóbal Balenciaga, who became his mentor, and then, landed a job with Lanvin in Paris. Soon after, he moved to New York City.

“When I first arrived here in 1963, all the names on clothes were the name of [the store],” he told Gotham magazine last year. “You made your clothes, you sold them to the store, and they quickly removed the label and put the label of the store. If it was a dress at Saks Fifth Avenue, the label was Saks Fifth Avenue. Bergdorf Goodman was Bergdorf Goodman. But it was a time of transition.”

In 1965, the designer launched his own label, and soon caught the eye of former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy. Other first ladies including Nancy Reagan and Hillary Clinton would follow suit, as well as a bevy of A-list stars, from Amy Adams to Sandra Bullock to Jessica Biel and countless others.

He also launched a successful bridal line, and most recently, designed Amal Clooney’s wedding gown.

“George and I wanted a wedding that was romantic and elegant, and I can’t imagine anyone more able than Oscar to capture this mood in a dress,” she told Vogue last month. “Meeting him made the design process all the more magical, as he is so warm and such a gentleman.”

The fashion designer is survived by his wife, Annette, and a son, Moises, as well as stepchildren and step-grandchildren.

De la Renta, who won a bevy of fashion awards in his lifetime, including two Council of Fashion Designers Designer of the Year Awards, a CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award and two COTY Awards, always appreciated every moment of his high-profile life.

“A huge mistake we make is forgetting that one day we will die. We think that we are going to live forever. I always say life is a little like a garden. There is a time to plant, then a time you have to weed. Just think about people you’ve deeply cared for. And then think of the people you wish you’d spent more time with,” he told Gotham. “I always say this: Live, love and laugh.”

Oscar you will be missed.

Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendes Name Baby Daughter Esmeralda

The name of the (undoubtedly gorgeous) daughter of Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes has been revealed.

The proud parents have decided to name their little girl Esmeralda Amada Gosling, according to the baby’s birth certificate obtained by TMZ. The document also states that Mendes gave birth at the Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, Calif. on Sept. 22 at 10:22 a.m.

Though the reasoning behind Esmeralda’s moniker is still unknown, her middle name — “Amada” — is the name of Mendes’ character in 2007’s We Own the Night.

Gosling, 33, and Mendes, 40, started dating after meeting on the set of 2010’s The Place Beyond the Pines. Mendes’ baby news broke in July, though neither of notoriously private stars ever spoke about it during the actress’ pregnancy.

This is the first child for the couple. Hopefully I get the chance to visit the happy family and cook up their favorite dish!

The Best Art Exhibitions to See This Month

In two weeks, Frieze London will open at Regent’s Park. While there will definitely be a lot to see at the 4-day art fair, visitors may also want an escape from all of the frenzy at some point. Luckily, a bunch of shows opened recently throughout the city, and there’s something for everyone.

At Lazarides, for instance, Parisian street artist Ludo is exhibiting his signature green-hued works, and it’s his first ever show in the UK. If street art isn’t your thing, Carlos Ishikawa is currently showing the wacky works of Korakrit Arunanondchai and his twin Korapat in their exhibition “2557 (Painting with history in a room filled with men with funny names 2).” The exhibition depicts exactly what the longwinded title suggests: strange men (or more precisely, mannequins) in a room that has been splattered in paint. Those are just some of the exciting exhibitions happening in London throughout the month.

For those who won’t be in London, do not fret. We’ve also included shows taking place in New York, Los Angeles, and other U.S. cities in our roundup of The Best Art Exhibitions to See This Month.

“Marina Abramovic: White Space”

Location: Lisson Gallery, 52-54 Bell St., London NW1 5DA
Dates: Sept. 17 – Nov. 1, 2014

“White Space” gets its name from an immersive sound environment Marina Abramovic created decades ago. The piece consisted of a room that had been lined with white paper and was set to play an audio recording of Abramovic saying “I love you” over and over again. Those who entered the room were instructed simply to listen. Until now, the piece had never been recreated. A must-see for any fan of Abramovic, the show also includes a range of never before seen works by the legendary performance artist.

“Soleil Double”

Location: Galerie Perrotin, Paris, 76 Rue de Turenne 75003, Paris
Dates: Sept. 6 – Oct. 31, 2014

There’s something mystical about the works Laurent Grasso has created for “Soleil Double.” Many of his paintings and video works depict solar eclipses and celestial objects. While magnificent and otherworldly, these pieces also contain a somewhat menacing message. In fact, the whole idea of “Soleil Double” or two suns, for example, is an ominous one. Only in a world gone awry or one that’s about to face a freakish phenomena could two suns be lighting up the sky.

“Wet Geometry”

Location: Shooting Gallery, 886 Geary St., San Francisco
Dates: Oct. 11 – Nov. 1, 2014

About a year ago, Adam Lister made headlines for his 8-bit reinterpretation of classic paintings. This month, he’s set to take over Shooting Gallery with his Picasso-reminiscent watercolor paintings. His collection of work, “Wet Geometry,” will see Lister reference and break down iconic scenes from art history and pop culture. In this show, comic book heroes like Batman, as well as characters from Star Wars, will get the Cubist treatment.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Confirms He Will Star in a Baywatch Movie

Baywatch is coming to the big screen, my good friend Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson confirmed via Instagram. “‘This is my beach bitch!’ Rumors are true… we’re making #BAYWATCH the movie. Edgy, raunchy and hopefully, funny as all hell. Cue slo mo running on the beach… #WhoNeedsMouthToMouth #RedShortsBeHugginABrotha,” The Rock wrote.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Pictures has hired Justin Malen to rewrite the script. Jeremy Garelick and Peter Tolan were among those who’d previously written scripts for the movie. Sean Anders and John Morris, who co-wrote the hit comedy We’re the Millers, are attached to direct.

Baywatch has been in the news again as of late.

The TV series celebrated its 25th anniversary Sept. 22. Baywatch aired for 11 seasons. It starred David Hasselhoff, plus hot-bodied babes like Pamela Anderson, Traci Bingham, Yasmine Bleeth, Brooke Burns, Donna D’Errico, Erika Eleniak, Nicole Eggert, Gena Lee Nolin, Kelly Packard and Alexandra Paul. Michael Bergin, David Charvet, David Chokachi, Jeremy Jackson, Jason Momoa, Michael Newman and Jaason Simmons also co-starred.

Entertainment Tonight recently spoke with cast members, and the stars shared some behind-the-scenes secrets, including a clause in their contracts forbid the actresses from gaining or losing too much weight.

No word yet if any of the original stars will reprise their roles in the Baywatch movie.

Kim Kardashian In Matching Crop Top And Pants For Paris Fashion Week

Kim Kardashian & North Check Out Of Paris

A pastel turtleneck crop top with holes and matching pants is not an outfit for those who want to be understated, but Kim Kardashian is far from understated.

The reality starlet made a major fashion statement Wednesday when she stepped out in the puzzling ensemble to catch a flight out of Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport back to Los Angeles after a busy Fashion Week. Kardashian paired the pink Chanel outfit scattered with cut-out holes with nude pumps and a long gray coat.

She was photographed with North West leaving the Royal Monceau Hotel and hopping into a waiting car.

The 33-year-old made quite the splash at this year’s Paris Fashion Week in an array of outfits. I love my girl’s style!
